Fashion

When I was married, I used to (unconsciously) adhere to this atavistic belief that my body belonged to my now ex-husband.  I would get uncomfortable if another man found me attractive.  I did not want to invite the male gaze. I didn't want to dress provocatively. Not that I dress that way now, but interestingly, as I was going through my closet the other day, I noticed a stark difference in my wardrobe before divorce and post-divorce.
So I turned 41 a little bit over a week ago. Apart from my Hawaii trip last year, I usually spend my birthday overseas, usually in a country I have never been before. With COVID putting a damper on international travel, I decided to go on a camping and hiking trip to the West Coast. I went with a good friend, Aileen, who usually spends her birthday overseas as well. We decided to go to Yosemite National Park as both of us have never been and planned to summit Half Dome on my birthday.

Most Americans want the newest, latest thing, especially when it comes to clothing and fashion. But did you know that over 70% of the world's population use secondhand clothes, and the US is largest exporter of second hand clothing? It exports over a billion pounds...

This year, I vowed not to buy any new clothing and only buy vintage, secondhand, or repurposed clothing. Doing this reduces my carbon footprint and makes me a more conscious consumer, among other things. Plus I may have a very tiny obsession with vintage and...

Every year, for the past three years, I would gather all my girlfriends and celebrate my birthday in a very special way. We would go through our closets, take out clothes that we love but no longer wear, shoes that we never use, and handbags gathering dust.  Espousing organizational guru and "tidying-up" philosopher, Marie Kondo, we endeavored to spark joy by releasing ourselves from the bindings of our stuff. We pack these up and take them to Lotus House Thrift Chic Boutique.
Yes! It's that time of the year again. My favorite season is here. Time for bikinis, summer dresses, and tiny shorts. We kinda wear that almost year-round here in Miami, but it gives us South Floridians another excuse to dare to bare. I am very excited about the fashion trends this season! Not only because the inspirations for Spring/Summer 2016 fashion trends are eclectic, fun, and wearable, but the designers have gleaned influences that are highly representative of one of my favorite decades--- the 90s.
